Potato Gratin w/Cheddar Cheese (D, KLP, TNT)

5 potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
Oil
Cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 sweet onion, chopped
1/3 cup heavy cream
Paprika, to taste
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste

Set oven to 325°F. Oil the bottom of an 8" round foil cake pan or the equivalent. (Quantities are loose, adapt to your pan).

Place a layer of sliced potatoes, a handful of chopped onion, salt, pepper and 1/3 of the cheddar cheese. Repeat twice, ending with cheddar sprinkled on top of the potatoes and lightly add paprika. Pour cream around the edges.

Seal tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and continue to bake until browned on top.

Poster's Notes:
I don't have a family minhag for non-gebrokts, but I'm beginning to believe this is a better (tastier) way to go. Amid all the discussion of potato kugel, I needed a fast, tasty mid-week dinner. I served this with a nice tossed salad and white wine.
