1 tablespoon
vegetable oil
2 garlic cloves
3 shallots
chopped
1/4 cup of
sugar (I use less or a sugar substitute)
1/2 teaspoon
salt (optional)
2 tablespoons
lite soy sauce
juice of 2
limes
2 sliced green
onions
4 hot chiles,
seeded and chopped (you can modify this to your taste)
pepper to
taste
1-1/4 lb cooked
steak, sliced
1/4 cup heart
of white cabbage, shredded. What this means is remove the dark green leaves to use for another purpose and chop up the rest.
Sauté garlic and shallots over medium heat for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and sprinkle with sugar.
Stir in salt, soy sauce, lime juice, onions and chiles. Pour over sliced beef and marinate for about 1 hour (can even do it over night). Serve over chopped cabbage.
Poster's Notes: This is a great recipe to prepare ahead of time. The steak can be grilled and marinated the day before.
