Chocolate Chip Cookies, Golda Meir's (D/P)
Source: Joan Nathan's Children's Jewish Holiday Kitchen
Yield: 4 dozen cookies

1 cup unsalted butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1-3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2 tsp. orange juice
1/2 tsp. orange zest, grated
12 ounces chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Using a wooden spoon, cream together the butter and the white and brown sugars.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Mix together the butter and sugar mixture, the flour mixture and the eggs, orange juice, and orange zest. With a wooden spoon, beat until everything is smooth and well-combined or use an electric mixer for about 2-1/2 minutes. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop the dough by tablespoons onto a greased baking sheet about 3" apart. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden. Remove from the oven, let sit a few minutes and transfer with a pancake turner to a rack to cool.
