Pumpkin Date Torte (D, TNT)

1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 tbsp. all purpose flour
1/4 cup butter
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2/3 cup pumpkin
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. powdered ginger
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Combine dates, nuts and 2 tbsp. flour, set aside. Melt butter over low heat and blend in brown sugar until it is melted. 

Remove from heat and stir in pumpkin and vanilla. One at a time, beat in the eggs. Sift dry ingredients and blend into pumpkin mixture.

Stir in floured dates and nuts and turn into a buttered 9" cake pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm with the topping of whipped cream.
