Buttercream Frosting, Basic (P, TNT)

Yield: 3-1/4 cups

1 cup solid vegetable shortening
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (3 teaspoons if you are making plain)
2 to 3 teaspoons your favorite flavoring (apricot, rum, almond, ammaretto, etc.)
3 to 4 ounces non-dairy topping

In a mixing bowl, cream shortening until fluffy. Add sugar, and continue creaming until well blended.

Add salt and flavoring, and topping until moistened (begin with 3 fluid ounces and add additional cream as needed); beat at high speed until icing is fluffy.
