Kosher Chinese

All of this talk about kosher restaurants in NY reminded me of the time my father attended a gift show in New York in the mid-1950s. He brought home a menu from Schmulke Bernstein's - a kosher Chinese restaurant.

My sister and I poured over the menu so excited by the traditional non-kosher Chinese dishes made kosher by substituting veal for pork and who-knows-what for shrimp.

We asked my father which of these tasty dishes he chose for his meal. He blushed a little and answered ..... kishka!
